An Eclectic Mismatched Tree

The Christmas tree rules in our house are as follows – Real tree, big as you you like, absolutely no colour co-ordination, star on top and all decorations welcome!

If your antlers are bent or your wings are broken don’t worry there is a place for you here.

There will be fights, as there should be, over whose decoration in whose, who has claim to the best branches and who gets to put the star on top (and that’s just the adults).

But decorating the tree was one of the best things about Christmas for me as a child, every year three new decorations joined the weird and wonderful motley crew. One for each sister.

It will be just the same now i have a family of my own. For our tree is a homage to Chrsitmasses past and present, every year new decorations added and every year new memories made.

It’s a beautiful tree – yours is a bit like ours. I let Amelia do the decorations, and my sister joked that I’d have to rearrange it later. I explained that actually it’s the wonkiness of the decorations and the hand made stuff that make it beautiful:) I think your tree is lovely xx

I love your tree! I started collecting Xmas tree decorations about 6 years ago so every time we go anywhere I get something new for the tree. I love getting them all out and remembering where each one was from. The result is the tree is a bit mismatched but that’s what makes it so special! Ours goes up Saturday, can’t wait!

How lovely – your decorations are adorable & I love the fact they’re all mismatched and mean something to you. Ours is a lot like that and while I envy those with perfect matching baubles, actually I think on reading this post that it’s far lovelier to have a mismatched collection of decorations that make you smile and remind you of Christmases past. Merry Christmas to you and yours xx

So do I, I love getting the box out and going through them all each year and the best thing is that will just get better and better as the years pass. Thanks for you lovely comment xx

I love your tree! And yay to mismatched decorations! :) We are finally going to the Christmas tree farm to pick our tree tomorrow. We do this every year, so I’m really excited :)

It’s beautiful I love it! Just wonder though how S is treating it? My EJ (16 months) is already showing signs of obsession with baubles on other trees and we haven’t even put ours up yet!

Aw lovely! It is a beautiful tree, and although ours has a faint colour scheme (silver and purple since you asked) we buy a decoration each year for the girls. It is so special and I love it, just like I did when I was younger. Although my Mum won’t give me my decorations as she is too sentimental- Christmas scrooge. x

Ahhh, I love a tree with a story. It’s funny how I can remember when each decoration on ours joined the collection, and I can with my mums tree too (which houses all the decorations from my childhood). x

That’s a beautiful tree. We’re not going down the tree route this year as I can’t be bothered to police it but I’ve still bought a couple of decorations for future Christmasses. I hope our tree will then be as meaningful and aesthetically pleasing as yours! Happy Christmas season X

Thanks Thao – funnily enough neither or our boys have ever really been bothered by the tree, much more into the TV and Xbox as they have flashing lights and buttons :_
